Providing minimally invasive weight loss surgery
THE OBESITY EPIDEMIC
Obesity is a raging problem in America. Research shows that more three quarters of the American population is obese, with 30% of this population being under the age of 20. While exercise and diet do help weight loss, sometimes they aren’t enough. Using the da Vinci Surgical System, the best bariatric surgeons in New Jersey at NJ Surgical Solutions are changing lives and helping people eliminate their obesity problem for good.

WHAT IS BARIATRIC SURGERY?
Hormonal problems, genetics and lifestyle can prevent you from achieving your desired weight and body shape. This is where surgical treatments are vastly helpful. In medicine, the study and treatment of weight loss related concerns is called bariatrics and the surgery doctors perform for the express purpose of helping patients lose weight is called bariatric surgery.
Known as some of the best bariatric surgeons in New Jersey, Dr. Val Prokurat and his staff at NJ Advanced Surgical Solutions, strive to provide the most comprehensive weight loss management programs to patients. We have extensive experience working with clients across Central New Jersey and we look forward to helping you on your journey to healthy living. Get in touch today.
DA VINCI® GASTRIC BYPASS
The da Vinci bariatric surgery New Jersey Advanced Surgical Solutions delivers actually refers to a class of multiple surgeries that are performed to help patients reach their ideal weight. They may be suggested to patients with a high Body Mass Index (BMI) and other medical conditions related to obesity.
According to convention, bariatric surgery can be done using the open surgery technique, by making a large incision (cut) on the area above the stomach. However, it can also be done using a minimally invasive surgery – through a few small incisions – using the traditional laparoscopy or the da Vinci® Surgery (da Vinci Gastric Bypass or da Vinci Gastric Sleeve Surgery) System.
In the traditional open bariatric surgery, the incision made is between 5 & 6 inches long. Such a large incision exposes a large part of the patient’s stomach & gut to the outside world, making it vulnerable to damage or infection. Additionally, opening up the stomach too large, will also result in long and puckered surgical scars, which may be off-putting.
WHY DA VINCI® SYSTEM?
The da Vinci® System, on the other hand, is a robotics-assisted surgical device that allows your surgeon to be 100% in control at all times. Here, 2-3 tiny incisions are made just around the area to be treated and a telescopic probe and telescopic equipment are used to look into the body and perform our bariatric surgery in New Jersey.
The da Vinci® System gives surgeons:
- A 3D HD view inside your body
- Wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand
- Enhanced vision, precision and control over surgical movements
BENEFITS
By using the da Vinci® Surgical System, your surgeon will limit the amount of stress your body experiences. As a result you will find that you have:
- Short recovery time
- Less noticeable scars
- No infection
- Fewer follow-up visits
The best part about the da Vinci® Surgical System is how it can be used to offer a wide range of treatments. Two of the most preferred and sought-after bariatric surgeries – the Gastric Sleeve and the Gastric Bypass – can also be performed using this advanced robotic system.
A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL SOLUTION
The gastric sleeve is a bariatric surgery in New Jersey, used to surgically reduce the size of the stomach. Here, the surgeon will cut your stomach pouch into two parts, with one being larger than the other. By resection, your surgeon will remove this large part of the stomach pouch and will stitch up the remaining smaller section. The objective of this procedure is to prevent the patient from eating large quantities of food. When the size of your stomach is small, you will automatically eat less.
The gastric bypass procedure works on the same line of thought. But, it takes this belief a step further. After completing the gastric sleeve surgery, the doctor will attach a part of the small intestine to an area of the stomach, thereby creating a tube that will bypass food from the stomach to the small intestine. This tube prevents the food from staying in your stomach too long, where it can be broken down and the sugars and fats transferred to the large intestine for further break up and absorption. This prevents your body from storing excess fat, enabling you to lose weight.
LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY
Both of these procedures can be performed laparoscopically using this robotic system. The da Vinci® Gastric Sleeve Surgery and the Gastric Bypass Surgery both offer the following potential benefits to patients:
- Low rate of gastrointestinal leaks
- Short hospital stay
- Low risk of needing follow-up surgery
- Low risk of surgeon switching to open surgery
All of these culminate in your reaching your desired goals faster and with little to no complications.
